Day 4 - Acclimation Hike did not disappoint. To explain that, with treks going to the heights we are going, you spend 2 nights at an altitude, spent the day going up 1300ft, to get that exposure. Then hike back down to our tea house. The hike was 4:30 hours and frankly pretty scary climbing with sheer drop offs on both sides of the ridge we were on. But the views were beyond spectacular AND we saw Everest for the first time. It’s still so far away!
Everest is the peak to the left just over the closer brown mountain
We also encountered our first Yak. You don’t see them below 13,000 ft because it makes them sick. They are much bigger than the Dzo that we have seen at lower altitudes. They are very agile for such large animals.
And of course dogs stayed with us the entire hike. They were a joy to have along, very friendly and light on their feet. Any time a Yak got too close to us the dogs went into their protective mode and chased them away.
Ended the day with a hike up the heal to a hotel the Japanese built, Hotel Everest View to have some coffee.
Wow!!! - Kristina
